My meal was delicious. I got the birria quesadilla with a side of rice. The server was very nice, will be visiting again!
Food was good! The food was out very fast and the server refilled my drinks before they were completely empty! The rice was seasoned so well! Will return.
Stopped back-in for lunch and decided to update my review. Still had excellent service and a very attentive and kind waiter. I ordered the chicken enchiladas again and they were just as good as last time. Chips and salsa as well as white sauce were yummy! Inside there is a mixture of tables and booths as well as a small bar area. Service was also fast which is nice during lunch!
Another great experience at my favorite local spot. Tonight I wanted something light and opted to eat two light options. All the ingredients were fresh on my meal and my drink. The service was quick and our table had someone join late and the staff got their order in and delivered promptly. It wasn't a very busy Tuesday night and there were lots of choices for seating both inside and outside.
*THURSDAY is karaoke night This place is a solid 4 all around. Came here on a whim looking for somewhere else but figured we'd give it a try. I was pretty stoked with the setup and it had quite a few patrons in the facility eating. I ordered the fresh guac and woo wee.. it was a bit spicy but it was def very good. However, I just don't know if it was worth the cost... I was surprised it was basically the cost of an entree. Overall, the service was super friendly, food decent for sure. I've had some very good Mexican food all around the country and this is definitely respectful for where it's located. My only 'umph' was karaoke night. Not because of the signing, etc. but because of the volume everything was playing at. This facility is not very big. When we stepped out, our ears were ringing as if we had just left a concert. That's a tad excessive imo. Food Taste: 4 Overall Service: 5 Value of food to cost: 3 Facility: 4 Repeat customer: maybe? Dog Friendly: no
How have I lived in this area and didn't know about this hidden gem?! My friend and I went here on a whim one rainy day and I'm glad we did. This restaurant is hidden and you can easily miss it on Jefferson. When we walked in around 4ish, there were maybe only 2 or 3 other tables. Anyways, we sat at the bar and was assisted by "little" Dora (there's two). She was so much fun to interact with and actually was the highlight of our trip there outside of the food. She had the most positive attitude and we literally talked with her behind the bar since it was slow that day. And because we were being super silly and messing with little Dora, another bartender named Juan came back there to talk to us as well. The staff here is extremely pleasant. If you want good, reasonable priced food at a wholesome restaurant, then this is your place. The food was really really good surprisingly and extremely filling. The drinks were strong and the prices were very reasonable.
Whatever you do, don't wear a white shirt when you go to Papa Nacho Mexican Bar and Grill! Got a notification in Yelp to give this place a try for review, so I did! Papa Nachos is on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News in the old Schlezenger (sp) Deli building. So it was a little unusual to have a Mexican Restaurant in this building because they are normally in larger buildings than this. But there were still plenty of seating inside and out. We were greated by the hostess and we ask for a specific table, a booth next to the wall, right by the live entertaining entrance. I was actually surprised that table was available because it was a prime table. But the hostess explained to us that it was not that prime because it was right next to the speaker for the live entertainment, saying that previous customers claim it to be very loud. It was, so we opted to set outside. Like I said the restaurant is not as big as a typical Mexican restaurant and does not have much Mexican decor. But they do have significant seating and a full bar. I notice a lot of tequila at the bar. There is also a few TV monitors showing sporting events and one monitor that displays menu options. I highly suggest using that when making your decision because there are plenty of options. During my visit I checked out the bathrooms, they were super clean. I feel the bathroom is a direct reflection of the kitchen. Our server came out to bring menus and see if we were ready to place a drink order. I had a medium Dos Equis Lager with a twist of lime and my wife had a pink lemonade. As we browsed the menu, I notice the plentiful Mexican dishes they had and they explained what each dish was, what came with it and or course the price. Now my main problem with most Mexican restaurants these days is they pour queso cheese over the finished dish. Usually it is too much and it just changes the dish for me. At Papa Nacho, the menu is descriptive enough to tell you what has the cheese over it, and what does not. That was a big plus for me. It was getting a little warm outside and we notice that a booth seat came available inside, so we ask to move and our server Kate obliged our request. Once back inside, the live entertainment was very LOUD! I mean you literally are talking loud just be heard by the person right across the table from you. But this didn't bother me too much because the food was so good. As I looked around the restaurant, people closer to the live entertainment had to talk a little louder wear as those who were not didn't.. Kate our server returned and took our order. I had the Taco Zacatecas and my wife had some enchiladas. All meals are served with beans and rice and come with pico-de-gallo. The food soon arrived hot and fresh. I had three tacos that had a hearty portion of filling. My wife also had a hearty portion of enchiladas, beans and rice as well. I was so amazed just how good the food was. I mean it really had that authentic Mexican taste. Food was seasoned to perfection and served hot and fresh! I kept on telling my wife just how good the food was. I even finished all my food, as much as I had, in one seating not taking anything home for later. The food was just simple delicious and I can't express that enough. Kate our server was amazing, as a matter of fact all the employees we interacted with was super nice and helpful. Kate was well knowledgeable of the menu options and she explained everything well, answering all our questions with a recommendation. Through our dinner, what seemed to be loud and obnoxious music turned out to be very soothing and relaxing. The per former turned out to be the 'voice of Mexico" and he was vey good! This was just a wonderful experience. Just remember it is a little loud on the inside with the live entertainment but the food is supper good! I will definitely be back! Happy Yelping!
Papa Nachos is my jammmm! They literally have the best tacos. Super authentic and so much flavor. I like to go and sit at the bar. They have a very good drink selection and everything is very yummy. The food even taste good on takeout (I do live right across the street though so probably would not be good with more distance) I went in on their anniversary night and they had a live mariachi band which was super nice, I believe they do live music maybe weekly and they also have karaoke.
